Russell Martin had an RBI single to highlight a three-run second inning and A.J. Burnett overcame a rocky start to toss six frames as the New York Yankees posted a 5-4 home victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.
Curtis Granderson, Eric Chavez and Brett Gardner all had RBI singles to left field and Derek Jeter added a run-scoring sacrifice fly for New York (15-9).
After Rajai Davis tripled and came around to score to lead off the game, Burnett (4-1) settled down and improved to 3-4 against his former team. The 34-year-old tattooed hurler yielded four runs and nine hits while striking out four.
Joba Chamberlain recorded three outs on six pitches and Rafael Soriano worked a scoreless eighth to bridge the gap to Mariano Rivera. The 41-year-old closer overcame a two-out double to Jose Molina before forcing Mike McCoy to fly out for his ninth save of the season.
McCoy belted a solo homer, Adam Lind both scored and drove in a run and Rajai Davis led off the game with a triple and came around to score for Toronto (13-14).
Kyle Drabek (2-1) permitted five runs and seven hits in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss.
