Robinson Cano delivered a go-ahead, two-run double in the seventh inning and the New York Yankees beat the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 on Saturday for their third straight victory.
Cano went over 100 RBIs for the second straight year and reached 40 doubles for the fifth time in seven seasons to assure that New York would remain in first place in the American League East. The Boston Red Sox remained a half-game behind the Yankees after posting a 12-7 triumph over the Texas Rangers.
Boone Logan (5-2) pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief of starter Bartolo Colon, who allowed four runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.
With Mariano Rivera unavailable, Dave Robertson pitched the final two innings for his fourth save of the year.
Blue Jays starter Ricky Romero (13-10) had his six-game winning streak snapped after giving up five runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. His last loss was to New York on July 16.
Francisco Cervelli hit a two-run homer to help the Yankees (84-53) improve to a season-best 31 games over .500.
Adam Lind and Dewayne Wise went deep for Toronto, which saw Yunel Escobar (wrist) and Eric Thames (dizziness) exit the game early. Wise also tripled to give him his first homer and first three-bagger since July 2010.
