Rookie J.P. Arencibia hit a three-run homer and Brett Cecil pitched seven strong innings as the host Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Texas Rangers 3-2 on Friday night.
Arencibia hit a hanging curve ball from Alexi Ogando into the bullpen in left-center field in the fifth for his 17th home of the season. He has five homers in his last six games.
Ogando (10-5) was outpitched by Cecil (4-4) for the second time in a week. He allowed three runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Cecil, who threw his first career shutout against the Rangers on Sunday, allowed one run on seven hits and struck out six Friday. Jon Rauch earned his ninth save.
Nelson Cruz hit his 23rd homer of the season in the second and Mike Napoli connected off Rauch for his 14th homer to lead off the ninth.
Cruz left the game in the fifth with tightness in his left quad.
