Marlins 5, Braves 1
Josh Johnson pitched 7 1/3 innings of no-hit ball and drove in a run Wednesday to lead the Florida Marlins to a 5-1 victory over the host Atlanta Braves.
Johnson (2-0) left after Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman hit an opposite-field double past third base with one out in the eighth. Johnson struck out nine and walked three as he attempted to become the fifth Florida pitcher to throw a no-hitter.
Johnson also went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Florida’s three-run second inning as the Marlins evened the three-game series.
Ryan Webb finished the eighth for Johnson and Randy Choate pitched the ninth and allowed a solo home run to Chipper Jones. It was the 1,500th career RBI for Jones.
The Marlins roughed up Atlanta starter Tim Hudson (2-1), who gave up five runs and seven hits in six innings. One of the hits was Logan Morrison’s third homer of the season. Chris Coghlan went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
