Braves 7, Padres 0

Tommy Hanson struck out 10 over seven innings and the visiting Atlanta Braves used a five-run second inning to beat the San Diego Padres 7-0 on Wednesday.

Chipper Jones had a run-scoring groundout in the first and knocked in two more runs in the second with a triple off Mat Latos (0-4), who gave up one earned run on seven hits over five innings.

Hanson, who entered the game 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in two starts at Petco Park, improved to 3-3 after giving up four hits with one walk.

First Baseman Brad Hawpe’s two-base error in the second inning keyed a five-run Atlanta rally, helping the Braves complete their 10-game road trip with a 6-4 record. Atlanta has won five of its last six.

The Padres have lost eight of their last 10 and entered Wednesday’s action last in the majors in batting average (.211) and runs scored (70). San Diego has been shut out a major league-leading seven times in 25 games.
