Phillies 3, Braves 0
Kyle Kendrick and four relievers combined on a five-hit shutout and Ryan Howard hit a home run to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-0 win over the visiting Atlanta Braves on Saturday.
Kendrick, making a spot start with Roy Oswalt on the disabled list, allowed just two hits and a walk over five scoreless innings. He struck out three.
J.C. Romero, Michael Stutes, Antonio Bastardo and Ryan Madson each worked a scoreless inning, with Madson earning his third save.
The Phillies spoiled the major league debut of Braves prospect Julio Teheran, who allowed three runs on four hits over 4 2/3 innings. The 20-year-old righthander struck out one and walked two.
Howard's seventh home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth, came against Teheran, and Shane Victorino chased the rookie with an RBI triple in the fifth.
The Phillies began the day tied for the best record in baseball with Cleveland, which played at the Los Angeles Angels later Saturday.
