Padres 5, Braves 4

Chris Denorfia went 3-for-4 and sparked a three-run rally with an RBI single to lift the San Diego Padres to their third straight win, a 5-4 decision over the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field.

With the game tied 2-2 in the seventh inning, Denorfia’s sharp single just got past the glove of diving Atlanta shortstop Alex Gonzalez and drove in pinch-hitter Eric Patterson with the go-ahead run. Denorfia then stole second and scored on Ryan Ludwick’s opposite-field single.

The rally made a winner of starter Matt Latos (3-6), who had allowed seven runs against Atlanta on April 27. Latos struck out seven and allowed only five hits in six innings.

Closer Heath Bell allowed one run in the ninth before retiring Brian McCann with a short fly for the final out to earn his 14th save.

Atlanta starter Mike Minor (0-2) allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings, but reliever Cory Gearrin was tagged for four hits and two runs to permit the Padres to take a 5-2 lead.
