Yankees 1, Tigers 1 (susp., 2nd inning)

Rain forced a suspension of Friday's Game 1 of the American League Division Series between the New York Yankees and visiting Detroit Tigers.

Because of a new rule instituted following the 2008 World Series, Game 1 will resume at the point of Friday's rain delay - in the bottom of the second inning with the Yankees coming to bat and the scored tied at 1-1.

Game 2 of the series will be held Sunday at 3:07 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium before the series shifts to Detroit for Games 3 and 4 on Monday and Tuesday.

The delay appears to have cost both teams the immediate services of their respective aces - Justin Verlander for Detroit and CC Sabathia for the Yankees.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Ivan Nova will be moved up from his scheduled Game 2 start to pick things up Saturday, while Freddy Garcia will start Sunday.

Detroit has also shuffled its rotation, moving Doug Fister into Saturday's conclusion while tabbing Max Scherzer for Game 2.

Verlander, who threw 25 pitches in one inning, will get the call for Game 3 Monday night in Detroit. He'll likely face a rematch with Sabathia, who threw 27 pitches in his two innings.

Delmon Young homered in the top of the first to give Detroit a 1-0 lead, but the Yankees responded with a run in the bottom of the inning without benefit of a hit. Derek Jeter reached on a wild pitch after striking out and scored on a walk and two groundouts.
