Diamondbacks 8, Brewers 1

Paul Goldschmidt hit the first postseason grand slam in franchise history and finished with five RBIs as the Arizona Diamondbacks stayed alive in the National League Division Series with an 8-1 victory over the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday.

Josh Collmenter pitched seven strong innings and Miguel Montero added two RBIs for the Diamondbacks, who now trail 2-1 in the best-of-five series.

Arizona already led, 3-1, in the fifth when Shaun Marcum loaded the bases with two outs. Marcum and Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy seemed to have trouble getting on the same page and met on the mound with the count 1-2 to Goldschmidt.

Lucroy, who got crossed up on the first pitch to Goldschmidt, set up on the inside part of the plate. Marcum left the fastball over the middle and Goldschmidt went with it, belting it over the wall in right to give Arizona a 7-1 advantage.

Marcum (0-1) threw his glove into the air in disgust as soon as the ball left the bat. He was removed before the next hitter.

Goldschmidt’s five RBIs tied a postseason club record.

Montero gave the Diamondbacks their first lead of the series in the first when he took a sinker low and away and got his hands extended, sending it off the center field wall right in front of a leaping Nyjer Morgan. Willie Bloomquist scored easily from second.

Collmenter (1-0) cruised, surrendering just two hits and walking a pair while striking out six. His lone blemish came in the third, when Corey Hart hit a solo homer.
