Tigers 7, White Sox 1

Austin Jackson drove in four runs and Brennan Boesch hit a three-run homer in support of Rick Porcello as host Detroit jumped into first place in the American League Central.

Jhonny Peralta and Gerald Laird each recorded two hits and scored two runs for the Tigers, who have won four straight to move a half-game in front of Chicago in the Central.

All-Star left-hander Chris Sale suffered the brunt of the damage for the White Sox, who have dropped four in a row. Sale (11-3) was charged with five runs on seven hits in as many innings while walking four and striking out six to suffer his first loss since May 12.

Porcello (7-5) worked eight-plus innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out four. He did not walk a batter in matching his longest outing of the season.

Sale matched Porcello through four scoreless frames and was handed a 1-0 lead when Dayan Viciedo singled home a run in the fifth. But Detroit responded right away in the bottom half, as Laird and Donny Worth connected for back-to-back two-out singles in front of Jackson, who belted a two-run double to right-center.

The Tigers extended the lead in the sixth again with two outs. Boesch came up with Miguel Cabrera and Peralta on base and slammed a 1-0 slider over the right field wall for his 10th blast.

Jackson added a two-run single in the eighth off right-hander Dylan Axelrod to put the game away.
