Padres 2, Diamondbacks 1
Padres 2, Diamondbacks 1: Eric Stults allowed two hits while tossing his third career complete game and Logan Forsythe drove in both runs as host San Diego won the opener of the three-game series.
Stults (6-5) walked one and threw 104 pitches in the Padres’ first complete game of the season. San Diego posted its seventh win in nine games to improve to 28-19 since its 5-15 start.
The Padres scored the only runs they would need in the sixth, when Trevor Cahill (3-8) allowed the first three batters to reach base before striking out Kyle Blanks and Will Venable. Forsythe followed with a two-run single to center.
Cahill struck out a career-high 10 batters while throwing 117 pitches for Arizona, which has lost four of six. Cahill is winless in his last five starts.
Gerardo Parra led off the game with a double and Willie Bloomquist hit a one-out single in the ninth for the only hits surrendered by Stults. The win moved San Diego one game under .500 and four behind first-place Arizona in the National League West.
