Padres 12, Diamondbacks 3: Andrew Cashner pitched six effective innings and belted his first career home run as visiting San Diego evened the three-game series between the National League West rivals.
Chris Denorfia and Chase Headley also homered, Yonder Alonso recorded three hits and four RBIs and Carlos Quentin drove in a pair of runs for the Padres, who improved to 5-4 on their 10-game road trip. The Diamondbacks fell 1 1/2 games behind the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers.
Cashner (7-5) allowed three runs on four hits and five walks as he improved to 3-0 lifetime against Arizona. The right-hander, who struck out five, helped his own cause with a solo blast in the sixth off reliever Josh Collmenter.
San Diego snapped a 1-1 tie with a four-run third inning highlighted by Alonso's three-run double. Denorfia made it 7-1 with a two-run blast that ended the night for Tyler Skaggs (2-3), and Headley deposited reliever Tony Sipp's first pitch of the game over the wall in left.
Skaggs was tagged for seven runs on three hits and five walks in 3 2/3 innings. Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer and Miguel Montero added a solo shot for the Diamondbacks, who are 3-3 on their seven-game homestand.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Montero missed the previous four games with a stiff back. ... Cashner has yielded three runs or fewer in eight of his last nine starts. ... San Diego is 2-2 over its last two games, scoring a total of 22 runs in the victories and just one in the losses.
