Marlins 1, Braves 0
Adeiny Hechavarria tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the ninth inning as Miami denied host Atlanta in its bid for a 15th straight victory.
The National League East rivals had combined for three hits in the first eight innings before Hechavarria turned on an 0-1 fastball from Jordan Walden (4-2) and tripled to left-center field. Nathan Eovaldi started and allowed one hit in seven innings and Mike Dunn (3-3) earned the win in relief for the Marlins.
Alex Wood struck out seven and yielded two hits in six frames but Freddie Freeman’s single was the only hit the Braves could muster through the first seven innings. Atlanta was attempting to match the franchise’s longest winning streak since the 19th century.
Evan Gattis provided a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth but Steve Cishek struck out Paul Janish to end the game and secure his 24th save in 26 chances.
The game was delayed 54 minutes after the first inning by rain but both starting pitchers continued after the storm had passed. Neither starter yielded an extra-base hit in the outing.
