Braves 5, Marlins 4 (11)
B.J. Upton went 4-for-6 and drove in three runs, including the winner with a two-out single in the 11th inning as host Atlanta won its sixth straight game.
After the Braves were unable to snap a tie in both the ninth and 10th frames despite having runners in scoring position and none out, Chris Johnson delivered his fourth hit of the game – a one-out single – off Ryan Webb (1-5). Brian McCann grounded out, but Dan Uggla drew a walk and Upton delivered a base hit to deep right-center to end it.
Luis Ayala (1-1) worked around a pair of walks in the 11th for the victory. Justin Ruggiano and Giancarlo Stanton each homered for the Marlins, who have dropped six in a row and 10 of their last 11.
Ruggiano staked Miami to a first-inning lead with a two-run shot down the right-field line, but Freddie Freeman halved the deficit with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half. Stanton restored the two-run margin in the fourth with a solo homer, only to watch Upton tie it up with a two-run blast to center, ending a 46-game homerless drought.
Logan Morrison put the Marlins back in front in the seventh with an RBI single, but McCann forged another tie with one of his own in the bottom half.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Miami had drawn 39 walks over the previous 11 games, but none of those runners came around to score. The mark was one shy of matching a team record but was halted in the first inning, when Stanton walked and scored on Ruggiano’s homer. … Atlanta improved to 10-4 against the Marlins and stretched its lead over Washington in the National League East to 15 games with 27 to play. … Miami scored more than three runs for the first time in 10 games.
