Angels 10, Mariners 9

Alberto Callaspo drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the eighth as host Los Angeles outlasted Seattle for its third win in the four-game series.

The Angels overcame a 7-0 deficit against Seattle ace Felix Hernandez and tied the game for the second time on Erick Aybar’s run-scoring single in the eighth off Carter Capps (2-2). Yoervis Medina recorded two outs with the bases loaded before walking Callaspo on four pitches to force in Albert Pujols with the decisive run.

Scott Downs (1-2) retired Raul Ibanez with two on and two out in the top of the eighth and Ernesto Frieri struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 17th save in 18 opportunities. Mike Trout went 4-for-4 and is 17-for-37 in 10 games against the Mariners this season.

Seattle scored three first-inning runs against Tommy Hanson on Nick Franklin’s single and Kyle Seager’s two-run homer and added four runs in the second on run-scoring singles by Kendrys Morales and Ibanez and infield outs by Justin Smoak and Brendan Ryan.

The Angels trailed 8-2 before connecting for seventh straight hits against Hernandez in the fifth – with the runs scoring on a homer by Peter Bourjos, a single by Pujols and a three-run homer by Mark Trumbo. Pujols delivered a tying single in the sixth before Seager gave Seattle a 9-8 lead with a run-scoring double in the eighth for his fourth hit.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hernandez gave up seven runs (six earned) and 12 hits in five innings while Hanson allowed seven runs and six hits in two-plus innings. … The Angels racked up 17 hits and the Mariners had 12. … Seattle OF Michael Morse (quadriceps) was held out of the lineup but struck out as a pinch hitter to end the game.
