Phillies 3, Nationals 2

John Lannan dominated his former team with eight scoreless innings and All-Star Domonic Brown singled in a run as Philadelphia took the opener of a four-game set from visiting Washington.

Lannan (2-3), who was an afterthought in the Nationals organization last season before signing with the Phillies over the winter, allowed four hits while striking out four. Jonathan Papelbon surrendered two runs in the ninth but managed to lock up his 19th save as the Phillies won for the fifth time in seven games.

Dan Haren (4-10) came off the disabled list and struck out seven in five solid innings but could not get any support as Washington had a four-game winning streak come to an end.

Haren had a little trouble finding his command in the first inning and yielded singles to each of the first two batters before Brown lined a shot up the middle that caromed off Haren’s leg and allowed Ben Revere to score. A wild pitch and a pair of walks forced in another run.

Revere doubled and scored on Jimmy Rollins’ two-out single in the sixth to provide some important insurance.
