White Sox 6, Indians 4
Paul Konerko’s three-run homer in the eighth overshadowed Manny Ramirez’s debut and gave the Chicago White Sox a sweep of the Cleveland Indians with a 6-4 win on Wednesday.
Chicago entered the eighth trailing 4-1 against rookie Carlos Carrasco, who was making his first start of the season. He was removed after allowing a homer to Alexei Ramirez and a walk to Juan Pierre.
Konerko’s homer off reliever Justin Germano (0-1) came with two outs and followed A.J. Pierzynski’s game-winning three-run blast in the ninth inning on Tuesday. Ramirez hit fifth and served as the designated hitter, going 1-for-3 with a single.
Alex Rios also homered for the White Sox, who held on in the ninth as rookie Chris Sale earned his first career save. With closer Bobby Jenks unavailable, Sale walked a pair in the ninth before working out of the jam.
Tony Pena (4-2) pitched three innings in relief of Freddy Garcia for the victory.
Jayson Nix and Shin-Soo Choo both had three hits for Cleveland, but Choo struck out with runners at first and second to end the game.
