Mitch Maier and Brayan Pena each drove in two runs and Bruce Chen
tossed six effective innings to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 6-2
victory over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday
Kansas City salvaged the finale of its three-game set with Cleveland
and moved two games in front of the Indians in the race to stay out of
the American League Central Division basement.
Chen (9-7) allowed two runs and six hits in six innings. He walked
two, struck out four and did not allow a run until Jason Donald hit a
two-run home run in the sixth inning to tie the game 2-2.
Kila Ka'aihue gave the Royals the lead with an RBI double in the
seventh and Maier added a solo homer in the eighth to make it 4-2.
Pena and Maier each had sacrifice flies in the fourth to give the
Royals a 2-0 lead and Pena added an RBI single in the ninth when the
Royals tacked on a pair of insurance runs.
Fausto Carmona (11-13) took the loss, allowing three runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings.
