Royals 4, Indians 2

Mike Aviles and Kila Ka'aihue hit solo homers and Sean O'Sullivan won for the first time in a month as the Kansas City Royals recorded a 4-2 triumph over the Cleveland Indians.

Yuniesky Betancourt went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Royals, who had lost four of their previous six games.

Aviles opened the scoring with one out in the first inning, belting his seventh home run of the season for a 1-0 lead. Kansas City proceeded to load the bases before Billy Butler scored on a grounder by Betancourt to double the advantage.

Lucas May made it 3-0 in the third with an RBI groundout, but after leadoff hitter Trevor Crowe was stranded at second in the sixth, Cleveland rallied in the seventh to get within a run.

Shelley Duncan drew a leadoff walk and Jayson Nix doubled to chase O'Sullivan. Philip Humber came in and walked Matt LaPorta to load the bases for Luis Valbuena, who got the Indians on the board with an RBI groundout.

Nix raced home when first baseman Butler failed to field catcher May's pickoff throw, but after Crowe hit a two-out double to put the go-ahead run in scoring position, Humber struck out Drew Sutton to keep the Royals in front.

Ka'aihue created some breathing room in the eighth with his fifth blast of the year.

O'Sullivan (3-6) posted his first victory for Kansas City as a starter, allowing two runs and four hits in six-plus innings. The 23-year old, who had gone 0-6 with a 7.84 ERA in 10 starts as a Royal, walked four and struck out three.

Joakim Soria worked a perfect ninth for his 34th consecutive save and 41st in 43 opportunities this year.

Mitch Talbot (9-13) yielded three runs and five hits over five frames in his first outing since September 12, when he left his start against Minnesota with inflammation in his shoulder after throwing just 14 pitches. The right-hander, who walked three and struck out two, has just one win in 12 outings since June 27.

Crowe collected three of the five hits by Cleveland, which has lost five in a row.
