Blue Jays 4, Angels 1
Ricky Romero celebrated his new five-year contract with seven strong innings against his hometown team, leading the Toronto Blue Jays past the Los Angeles Angels 4-1 Sunday afternoon.
Romero (10-7) signed a deal worth more than $30 million Saturday. The 25-year-old Los Angeles native followed with one of his strongest outings of the season, allowing one run on six hits while walking three and striking four.
Adam Lind hit a solo homer, his 17th of the season, to pace the Toronto attack. Aaron Hill added a pair of RBIs and Lyle Overbay knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly as the Jays leave Anaheim having won two out of three in the series.
Mike Napoli's fifth-inning solo homer provided the lone offense for the Angels, who fell 8 1/2 games back of the Texas Rangers in the American League West race.
Los Angeles starter Dan Haren (8-11) was charged with four runs on nine hits over seven innings, with a walk and five strikeouts. He fell to 1-3 in five starts since joining the Angels in a deadline deal with Arizona.
