Geovany Soto hit a home run onto Waveland Avenue in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Chicago Cubs a 5-4 win over the Houston Astros on Sunday.
Cubs starter Casey Coleman allowed four earned runs over six innings while walking five. Marcos Mateo and Andrew Cashner (2-5) each threw a scoreless inning in relief before Carlos Marmol came on to save his 28th game of the season.
Wandy Rodriguez gave up four runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out six before giving way to Wilton Lopez 5-2), who gave up Soto’s homer, and was stuck with the loss.
Marlon Byrd hit his 12th home run of the year, a two-run shot, while Darwin Barney had two hits and two runs scored for the Cubs.
Catcher Chris Johnson had two hits and smacked his seventh dinger of the year for the Astros.
