Joey Votto had two doubles and three RBIs as the Cincinnati Reds downed the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 on Tuesday night.
Votto extended his hit streak to 10 games and drove in his 24th run in his last 20 games. Johnny Gomes added his 15th homer of the year, a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth. Scott Rolen had a pair of doubles and drove in a couple.
Cincinnati starter Aaron Harang went four innings in his first start since coming off the disabled list, allowing one earned run on eight hits. Harang walked three and struck out two in 91 pitches. Sam LeCure earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief.
Highly-touted prospect Aroldis Chapman also made his MLB debut tonight for the Reds, tossing one perfect inning with a strikeout. The 22-year-old Cuban lefty has dazzled scouts in the minor leagues with fastballs that reached up to 105 mph.
Yovani Gallardo took the loss, giving up six earned runs on nine hits over six innings. He struck out six and walked three. Gallardo threw 108 pitches, only 65 of which were strikes.
Rickie Weeks hit his 25th home run for Milwaukee, but the Brewers were 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position, leaving 10 runners on base.
