Nationals 9, Marlins 3

Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn each hit three-run homers to lead the Washington Nationals to a 9-3 victory over the Florida Marlins on Monday.

Jason Marquis (1-7) pitched 5 2/3 solid innings to earn his first win of the season and Mike Morse chipped in two hits for the Nationals in a game that was delayed nearly three hours at the start due to thunderstorms.

After the Marlins grabbed a quick lead on Hanley Ramirez’s solo homer in the first, Washington responded immediately in their next turn when Dunn’s double drove in Zimmerman with the tying run.

The Nationals opened it up in the next inning against Florida rookie Alex Sanabia (3-2), as Zimmerman followed singles by Alberto Gonzalez and Roger Bernadina with his 25th homer of the season to push it to 4-1.

Florida threatened with two runs in the sixth but the Nationals answered once again with a big inning in the seventh, capped by Dunn’s 33rd blast of the season off right-hander Brian Sanches.

Marquis had allowed one earned run in each of his last two starts but was on the losing end of a pair of shutouts.
