Phillies 3, Mets 1

Shane Victorino had an RBI double and scored the eventual game-winning run and Kyle Kendrick tossed six-plus solid innings as the Philadelphia Phillies recorded a 3-1 triumph over the New York Mets on Sunday.

Placido Polanco and Carlos Ruiz added run-scoring singles for Philadelphia (66-51), which has won 18 of its last 23 games and moved into a virtual tie with the San Francisco Giants (67-52) in the wild card standings. The Phillies begin a three-game series against the Giants on Tuesday.

Philadelphia remained two games behind the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves, who cruised to a 13-1 victory over the struggling Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday afternoon.

Kyle Kendrick (8-5) allowed one run and six hits in 6 2/3 innings to pick up the win.

Chad Durbin and Ryan Madson bridged the gap to Brad Lidge, who retired the side in order in the ninth for his 16th save of the season.

Jose Reyes belted a solo homer for New York (58-59), which dropped two of three to the Phillies for the second straight weekend.

Mike Pelfrey (11-7) permitted three runs and seven hits in seven innings to take the loss.
