Orioles 5, Red Sox 4
Vladimir Guerrero’s RBI single in the eighth inning lifted the Baltimore Orioles to a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Camden Yards Wednesday night.
The Red Sox tied the game with four runs in the eighth inning. Adrian Gonzalez had an RBI single in the frame and Kevin Youkilis followed with a three-run homer off winning pitcher Koji Uehara (1-0).
But Baltimore got back-to-back singles from Nick Markakis and Derrek Lee off loser Daniel Bard (0-3), a pass ball and Guerrero's solid single up the middle.
Luke Scott and Adam Jones hit back-to-back homers in the fourth inning as Baltimore took a 3-0 lead. Brian Roberts made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
Jeremy Guthrie threw six shutout innings, allowing seven hits while fanning six as the Orioles (10-12) won their second straight. Kevin Gregg worked the ninth for his fourth save.
Josh Beckett started for Boston (10-13), allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings.
