Orioles 5, Royals 3

Adam Jones hit a two-run homer with two out in the bottom of the ninth, capping a three-run rally that propelled the Baltimore Orioles to a 5-3 home win over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday evening.

Felix Pie began the Orioles' final surge with a one-out RBI double against Royals closer Joakim Soria (3-1) to tie the score, and Jones brought him around when he ripped a two-out, two-strike pitch over the center-field wall to end the game.

Alfredo Simon (1-0) earned the win with a perfect ninth for Baltimore.

The Royals had built a 3-0 lead over the first six innings against rookie Zach Britton before the Orioles finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth.

Matt Wieters doubled to drive in a run and scored on an infield hit by pinch-hitter Luke Scott to make it a one-run game.

Royals starter Danny Duffy worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing five hits while striking out six and walking three.

Britton gave up nine hits and walked two and struck out two over six innings for Baltimore. He surrendered a solo home run to Alex Gordon in the third.
