Orioles 9, Royals 2
Jake Arrieta tossed six strong innings and the Baltimore Orioles scored eight runs in the fourth inning en route to a 9-2 rout of the visiting Kansas City Royals on Wednesday evening.
After three scoreless frames, the Orioles broke the game open in the fourth against Luke Hochevar (3-5). After an RBI groundout by Vladimir Guerrero, Luke Scott drove in a run with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by J.J. Hardy. Felix Pie followed with another RBI single before Adam Jones stroked a base hit to center field that made it 7-0.
Arrieta (6-2) did the rest, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings of work. He gave up just two runs, both on a fifth-inning home run by Melky Cabrera.
Hochevar continued through the seventh inning for Kansas City, holding the Orioles scoreless in six frames. He surrendered eight hits and three walks.
Mark Reynolds added a solo homer in the eighth inning for Baltimore.
