White Sox 4, Athletics 3

Phil Humber turned in his fourth straight quality start and the visiting Chicago White Sox used a four-run second inning to beat the Oakland Athletics 4-3 on Friday night.

Humber (3-3) gave up three runs on six hits with no walks over six innings for the White Sox, who have won five of their last six.

Sergio Santos pitched a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save and extended his streak of consecutive scoreless innings to 18.

Chicago sent nine batters to the plate in the second inning against Brandon McCarthy (1-4), who allowed three earned runs on five hits while striking out six over seven innings.

After McCarthy allowed the first three batters to reach base in the second, the White Sox capped the four-run inning when Omar Vizquel scored on McCarthy’s throwing error.

The A’s responded in the bottom of the seventh with three runs on four consecutive hits off Humber. David DeJesus was picked off first with two outs to end the rally.

Oakland’s Coco Crisp was tagged out at the plate when he attempted to tie the game with a rare steal of home in the bottom of the eighth.
