Mets 4, Rockies 3
Mike Pelfrey doubled in the tiebreaking runs and pitched 6 2/3 innings to help the New York Mets to a 4-3 victory over the host Colorado Rockies on Tuesday.
Pelfrey brought home Ronny Paulino and Jason Pridie with a shot to right-center field in the fourth inning to give New York a 4-2 lead. He gave up three runs and six hits on the mound to improve his record to 3-3.
Pelfrey didn’t return after a 51-minute rain delay in the seventh and Jason Isringhausen got the next three outs and Tim Byrdak striking out Todd Helton for the final out of the eighth. Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect ninth for his 10th save.
New York’s Ike Davis staked Pelfrey to a 2-0 first-inning lead with a single to center that scored Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy.
Colorado knotted the score in the second inning on solo homers by Troy Tulowitzki and Seth Smith.
After Pelfrey’s double reinstated New York’s two-run advantage in the fourth, Carlos Gonzalez homered in the sixth inning to bring the Rockies back within a run.
Rockies starter Jason Hammel (3-2) gave up four runs and seven hits in seven innings.
Davis left the game after four innings with a calf injury.
