Reds 6, Phillies 3

Jay Bruce’s three-run double in the top of the ninth lifted the visiting Cincinnati Reds to a 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.

Brandon Phillips added a two-run single for the Reds, who snapped a six-game slide.

The Phillies sent closer Ryan Madson (2-1) and his 0.47 ERA into a tie game in the ninth inning. But after a quick first out Madson made an error on a bunt attempt, allowing Drew Stubbs to reach second base. Madson got Phillips to line out before intentionally walking Joey Votto and yielding an infield single to Scott Rolen to load the bases.

Bruce followed and drove a 1-1 offering deep to center, clearing the bases and lifting Madson’s ERA over a run to 1.80. It was just the second time this season that he had been scored upon.

Logan Ondrusek (3-2) got credit for the win and Francisco Cordero worked the ninth for his ninth save.

The Phillies took a 3-1 lead into the fifth before the Reds got to Vance Worley, who walked opposing pitcher Johnny Cueto to begin the frame and yielded a ground-rule double to Stubbs. Phillips followed with a single to right to knot it at 3-3.
