Phillies 3, Reds 2

Shane Victorino snapped a tie with a two-run homer in the eighth and Cole Hamels pitched six strong innings in his return from the disabled list as the Philadelphia Phillies recorded a 3-2 road triumph over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday.

Wilson Valdez collected a pair of hits, including an RBI double in the fifth inning for Philadelphia, which snapped a modest two-game skid and moved 6 1/2 games ahead of the idle Atlanta Braves in the National League East.

With the game tied at 1-1, Victorino deposited a breaking ball from Homer Bailey (7-6) into the seats in right field for his 15th home run.

Antonio Bastardo (6-0) relieved Hamels and struck out the side in the seventh inning to pick up the victory. Hamels was pulled after just 76 pitches by manager Charlie Manuel despite allowing just one run on two hits.

Rookie Michael Stutes yielded an RBI single to rookie Dave Sappelt in the eighth, but Ryan Madson snapped Cincinnati's four-game winning streak by securing his 24th save of the season.

Bailey fell to 0-3 in his career versus the Phillies after permitting three runs on six hits and striking out nine in eight innings.
