Cubs 4, Reds 3
Tony Campana's inside-the-park home run helped the Chicago Cubs to their sixth consecutive win, a 4-3 victory over slumping Cincinnati on Friday afternoon.
Campana put the Cubs on top in the first inning with his first career homer, ripping a ball deep to left field and following Starlin Castro around the bases to make it 2-0. Tyler Colvin added a solo shot to right in the second inning.
The Reds would twice get within a run, and Chicago closer Carlos Marmol put the tying and go-ahead runs on base in the top of the ninth inning, but he retired Ramon Hernandez — who had homered against Kerry Wood in the eighth — on a groundout to end it.
Winning pitcher Ryan Dempster (9-8) walked six but allowed just four hits in his six innings, striking out five. The Cubs are 12-4 in his last 16 starts.
Cincinnati starter Mike Leake (9-7) surrendered three runs on six hits in six innings, striking out five and walking three. Leake also got the Reds on the board with an RBI single in the fourth inning.
