Astros 3, Reds 2
Matt Downs doubled in the go-ahead run in the ninth as the visiting Houston Astros picked up their first win of the season and handed the Cincinnati Reds their first loss, 3-2, on Thursday afternoon.
Houston pushed the go-ahead run across in the top of the ninth. Brett Wallace led off with a single off Nick Masset (0-1) and moved to second on Humberto Quintero’s two-out single. Downs followed and drove a double to left field that scored Wallace.
The Reds were trailing, 2-1, in the seventh when Scott Rolen pinch hit for the pitcher and took an 0-1 offering from Brett Myers over the wall in left-center to tie the game.
Myers was lifted after the blast and saddled with his second no decision in as many starts.
The Astros managed only three hits off Cincinnati starter Sam LeCure in five innings but were able to push a pair of runs across on RBI groundouts in the first and fourth. LeCure struck out six and walked a pair in the no decision.
Fernando Abad (1-0) got the win and Brandon Lyon secured his first save.
