Reds 3, Astros 2
Jay Bruce doubled home Joey Votto to cap a three-run rally in the ninth inning and lift the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon.
Votto and Brandon Phillips also had RBI singles in the inning off Astros closer Brandon Lyon (3-2) to snap Houston’s three-game winning streak.
Cincinnati reliever Francisco Cordero (2-0) earned the victory with a scoreless inning of relief.
The Reds managed only one hit in eight innings, but came through with four in the ninth off Lyon (3-2), who blew his fourth save this season.
Cincinnati’s comeback spoiled Aneury Rodriguez’s impressive major league debut. Rodriguez threw five scoreless innings, allowing only a one-out triple by Chris Valaika in the third.
The Astros’ bullpen handed off a combined one-hitter to Lyon, who failed to retire a batter.
Houston scored both its runs in the third on RBI singles by Jason Bourgeois and Hunter Pence off Reds starter Travis Wood.
