Reds 7, Astros 3

Homer Bailey pitched seven scoreless innings and Joey Votto had three hits and drove in three runs as visiting Cincinnati rolled past Houston, 7-3, on Tuesday night.

Bailey (2-0) was sharp for the second straight time since returning from a shoulder injury, surrendering just five hits and striking out five without a walk. The Astros did not advance a runner past first base until the seventh inning.

Votto opened a four-run first inning for the Reds with an RBI double against Brett Myers (1-3), and his second-inning double plated two more runs to make it 6-0. Ryan Hanigan capped the Cincinnati scoring with an RBI single in the seventh, while the Astros broke up the shutout with three runs in the eighth inning.

Jay Bruce hit his eighth home run of the year for Cincinnati, a two-run shot in the first inning. Hunter Pence drove in a pair of runs for the Astros.

Myers gave up 10 hits and six earned runs in six innings, falling to the Reds for the second time in less than a week.
