Padres 3, Rockies 1
Ryan Ludwick knocked in two runs and Anthony Bass pitched five strong innings in his major-league debut to lead the visiting San Diego Padres to a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday.
Called up from the minors to replace an injured Aaron Harang, Bass (1-0) allowed one run on five hits and four walks. San Diego has won six of its last eight games at Coors Field.
After allowing two runs in each of his last two outings, Heath Bell worked a scoreless ninth inning for his 18th save.
The game was delayed one hour and 23 minutes because of rain with the Padres leading 2-1 in the top of the sixth.
Rockies’ starter Aaron Cook (0-1) gave up two runs on five hits and two walks over 5 2/3 innings. The Rockies managed just five hits after scoring 30 runs in their just-completed four-game series against the Dodgers.
Five of the Padres’ eight hits came from their first three batters – Chris Denorfia, Jason Bartlett and Chase Headley.
