Rockies 8, Diamondbacks 4
Seth Smith hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the seventh inning as the visiting Colorado Rockies scored five runs in the final three innings to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-4 on Friday night.
Reliever Joe Paterson got Smith to hit a fly ball to shallow center, and Mark Ellis was able to race home and score just ahead of the throw from Chris Young to give the Rockies a 5-4 lead.
The run was among five charged to Arizona starter Daniel Hudson (10-6), who struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings but hit two batters and was also charged with a throwing error. It was Hudson’s first loss since May 12.
Aaron Cook (1-5) gave up four runs in six innings, and went 2-for-3 and drove in a run.
Ellis and Dexter Fowler had three hits apiece, and Troy Tulowitzki had two RBIs for the Rockies.
Geoff Blum hit a two-run homer and Willie Bloomquist had an RBI triple in the second to give Arizona a 3-0 lead.
