Tigers 9, White Sox 1

Prince Fielder went 4-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs to back Rick Porcello's first career complete game as visiting Detroit snapped a three-game losing streak.

Porcello (12-8) continued his domination of Chicago, allowing one run and seven hits to improve to 4-0 against the White Sox this season and 9-1 in his last 12 outings against them.

Alex Avila went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to help the first-place Tigers move 5 1/2 games ahead of Cleveland in the American League Central. Austin Jackson, Victor Martinez and Jose Iglesias each had two hits and an RBI for Detroit.

Erik Johnson (0-2) lasted only 3 2/3 innings in his second major-league start, giving up six runs - two earned - on seven hits. Third baseman Conor Gillaspie had two hits and drove in Chicago's first run but he also committed three of his team's four errors.

Gillaspie's first miscue opened the door for a pair of first-inning runs before Detroit took command with three runs in the third on Fielder's 23rd homer - a laser into the seats in right field - and Avila's two-run single for a 5-0 edge.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gillaspie has 16 errors on the season, third in the majors among third basemen behind Pittsburgh's Pedro Alvarez and Washington's Ryan Zimmerman. ... The Tigers announced that SS Jhonny Peralta, currently serving a 50-game suspension for violating the league's drug policy, will begin working out with the club Wednesday. No decision has been made over whether to activate Peralta when his suspension ends on Sept. 27. ... White Sox OF Avisail Garcia returned to the lineup and went 1-for-4 after sitting out the last two games due to a double root canal.
