Tomas' grand slam helps Diamondbacks defeat Rockies

PHOENIX -- Arizona right fielder Yasmany Tomas had four hits including a grand slam and Brandon Drury and Mitch Haniger also homered in the Diamondbacks' 12-9 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday at Chase Field.

Tomas' grand slam in the sixth inning put the Diamondbacks up 10-9 after they squandered a 5-0 lead after three innings. Tomas had five RBIs and scored three runs.

Drury and rookie Haniger hit bases-empty homers in the seventh inning. Haniger's was the first of his career.

Drury had four hits and scored three runs, Kyle Jensen had two hits and three RBIs and Jake Lamb had two hits and an RBI as the Diamondbacks (59-84) broke a six-game losing streak.

Carlos Gonzalez had four hits, including three doubles, and Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado had three hits apiece for the Rockies (69-75), who had won three of five.

Gonzalez had three RBIs and Daniel Descalso homered and had three RBIs. Descalso has six homers, three in the last four games against Arizona.

Drury, Paul Goldschmidt and Welington Castillo singled with two outs in the sixth inning before Tomas hit an opposite-field homer to right field off Jordan Lyles (4-5).

Colorado scored three runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings for a 9-6 lead.

Right-hander Randall Delgado (4-1) retired one of the four batters he faced in the sixth inning for the victory.

Daniel Hudson pitched the ninth inning for his third save.

Tomas doubled off Tyler Anderson to open the second inning and scored on Jensen's single for a 1-0 lead.

Tomas singled home the first run of a four-run third inning, all the runs scoring after two were out. Drury doubled and Goldschmidt walked with one out before Tomas singled. Jake Lamb doubled in a run, and Jensen made it 5-0 with a two-run single.

Blackmon singled to open the a three-run Colorado fourth inning, the Rockies' first baserunner off Shelby Miller. Gonzalez doubled in a run, and Descalso's two-out, two-run single made it 5-3.

Miller doubled and scored on when Anderson threw Jean Segura's sacrifice bunt past first base for an error, making it 6-3.

Gonzalez had a two-run double and Raimel Tapia added an RBI single in the fifth inning to tie it at 6.

Descalso homered and Arenado had a two-run single to give the Rockies a 9-6 lead in the sixth inning.

NOTES: Arizona CF A.J. Pollock (groin) was expected to take batting practice Monday or Tuesday, manager Chip Hale said, and is expected to return before the end of the regular season. Pollock was removed Friday after tweaking his groin while running out a fly ball in the first inning. ... Arizona SS Chris Owings was given a start off after playing in 40 consecutive games since July 29. Owings hit .310 with 11 doubles, five triples and seven stolen bases in 167 plate appearances in that stretch, starting 39 of the 40. ... Colorado LF Gerardo Parra (hamstring strain) did not start Monday but is expected to return during the three-game series in Arizona that began Monday, manager Walt Weiss said. ... Arizona RHP Rubby De La Rosa will be on a 60-pitch limit in his Wednesday start against Colorado, and RHP Braden Shipley is expected to follow him into the game.
