Multiple contributors help Marlins to 8-1 win over Mets
NEW YORK -- Marcell Ozuna, Miguel Rojas and J.T. Realmuto all finished with two RBIs Saturday night and left-hander Adam Conley combined with four relievers on a three-hitter as the Miami Marlins beat the New York Mets 8-1 at Citi Field.
Ozuna homered in the second inning and delivered an RBI single in the seventh for the Marlins, who will look to complete a sweep of the three-game series on Sunday night.
Rojas had a third-inning sacrifice fly and an eighth-inning safety squeeze. Realmuto had RBI singles in the eighth and ninth innings.
Giancarlo Stanton finished with three hits, including an RBI single in the first, and Realmuto totaled three hits, including a third-inning triple. It was the fourth time in as many games this season Realmuto has collected multiple hits.
Adeiny Hechavarria added two hits.
Conley (1-0) allowed one run, one hit and three walks while striking out six in five innings. He retired the first 11 batters he faced and didn't allow a hit until Lucas Duda's two-out homer in the fifth.
The outing actually raised Conley's career ERA against the Mets in six games (five starts) from 1.11 to 1.22.
Brad Ziegler, Kyle Barraclough, David Phelps and Jose Urena each threw a scoreless inning of relief as the Marlins won their third straight game.
Jay Bruce singled in the seventh and Asdrubal Cabrera singled in the eighth for the other hits by the Mets, who have been outscored 15-3 in the first two games of the series.
Right-hander Robert Gsellman (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs, six hits and two walks while striking out seven in five innings. It was just the third time in eight career starts he has given up more than two runs.
NOTES: The Mets selected the contract of RHP Paul Sewand from Triple-A Las Vegas and designated IF/OF Ty Kelly for assignment. Sewand, a 10th-round pick of the Mets in the 2012 draft, made his major league debut in the eighth inning but gave up two runs while getting only one out. Kelly was hitless in his only at-bat this season. ... Marlins C J.T. Realmuto batted leadoff -- the third different spot he has held in the order in four games this season.
