Athletics 2, White Sox 1 (10)
Kurt Suzuki's solo home run in the top of the 10th inning was the decisive blow as the visiting Oakland Athletics rallied for a 2-1 victory Monday over the Chicago White Sox, who wasted a gem by Mark Buehrle.
Chicago reliever Jesse Crain (0-1) fanned the first two batters in the extra inning before Suzuki took him over the left-field wall. Brian Fuentes retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to save it for Tyson Ross (1-0), who tossed three innings of scoreless relief. Oakland pitchers combined to strike out 13 hitters.
The Athletics trailed 1-0 entering the ninth after being stymied by Buehrle, who allowed two hits and a walk in eight innings.
Adam LaRoche led off with a double against Matt Thornton and pinch runner Cliff Pennington came in to tie the game when White Sox left fielder Juan Pierre dropped a fly ball with one out.
Chicago's Brent Lillibridge hit a two-out homer in the fifth against Dallas Braden, who allowed five hits and struck out seven in six innings.
