Athletics 7, White Sox 4
Coco Crisp's RBI single in the 10th inning drove in the go-ahead run as the visiting Oakland A's rallied for a 7-4 road victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday afternoon. It was the third consecutive extra-inning game between the clubs this week.
After rallying with three runs in the ninth to tie it, the Athletics (6-6) got a pair of one-out walks in the extra frame against Matt Thornton (0-2), setting the table for Crisp, who smacked a 2-1 pitch up the middle for a base hit that plated Conor Jackson. Daric Barton followed with a two-run single to right.
Brian Fuentes pitched a scoreless 10th to save it for Grant Balfour (1-1), who struck out two in a perfect ninth inning.
Chicago's bullpen meltdown erased a fantastic eight-inning effort by starter John Danks, who fanned seven and allowed just one run, a solo homer by Hideki Matsui in the fourth. The White Sox (7-5) tied it on Gordon Beckham's RBI double in the fifth inning and gave Danks a three-run lead by scoring twice in the sixth and once more in the eighth, but Cliff Pennington had a two-run single in Oakland's ninth-inning rally.
A's starter Brett Anderson departed after 5 2/3 innings, having allowed three runs (two earned) and nine hits.
