White Sox 3, Athletics 2
John Danks outdueled Gio Gonzalez for his second straight win as the Chicago White Sox held on for a 3-2 home triumph over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday night.
Danks (2-8), who had dropped his first eight decisions of the season before finally breaking into the win column on June 6, gave up just four hits in 7 2/3 strong innings.
He threw 113 pitches before giving way to Jesse Crain with two outs in the eighth. Matt Thornton retired the final batter for his third save of the season.
The Athletics tied the game twice, first in the fourth inning on Josh Willingham's RBI single and again in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Hideki Matsui.
The White Sox answered both times with a go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning. Ramon Castro hit a solo home run in the fourth against Gonzalez (5-5) and Brent Lillibridge scored the winning run in the sixth when reliever Brad Zeigler made a throwing error on Carlos Quentin's grounder to the mound.
Gonzalez allowed five hits in 5 1/3 innings for Oakland, which lost for the 11th time in its last 12 games.
