White Sox 5, Athletics 4

Paul Konerko's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning was the difference as the Chicago White Sox held on for a 5-4 home win on Sunday afternoon.

Carlos Quentin grounded into a fielder's choice with one out and runners on first and second, but a throwing error by Scott Sizemore — who had tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the inning — allowed Mark Teahen to score the go-ahead run. Konerko followed with what would prove to be the decisive base hit off reliever Grant Balfour.

It was the seventh time in the teams' 10 meetings this year that the game was decided by a single run.

Philip Humber (6-3) worked seven innings for the win, giving up just four hits. He struck out seven and walked two. Matt Thornton worked a scoreless eighth to hold the lead for Sergio Santos, who recorded his 12th save despite allowing an RBI single to Jemile Weeks in the ninth inning.

Adam Dunn's three-run homer had put the White Sox ahead in the fourth inning before the A's came back with runs in the sixth and seventh to knot the score at 3-3.

Guillermo Moscoso (2-3) took the loss for Oakland despite leaving before Sizemore's miscue. He allowed six hits and walked four over 6 1/3 innings and was charged with all five Chicago runs, four of them earned.
