Tigers 5, Blue Jays 2

Austin Jackson belted a two-run homer to snap a tie in the seventh inning and Brad Penny turned in a strong effort on the mound to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 5-2 victory over the host Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.

Jose Bautista gave the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead in the third inning with his 10th home run of the season, but the Tigers pulled even in the fourth on an RBI double by Victor Martinez and a run-scoring single by Jhonny Peralta.

Jackson then put Detroit in front for good with his two-run shot to left against Jo-Jo Reyes (0-3) with two outs in the seventh.

Penny (3-3) worked 7 2/3 innings for the win, scattering seven hits without a walk. Daniel Schlereth finished off the eighth inning and Jose Valverde struck out the side in the ninth for his seventh save of the campaign.

Reyes pitched seven-plus innings in defeat, allowing eight hits and a walk. He was charged with a fifth run after Detroit's Miguel Cabrera tacked on an RBI single in the eighth inning against Jason Frasor.
