Padres 8, Rockies 2
Ryan Ludwick hit a three-run homer and Mat Latos picked up his first victory of the season as the San Diego Padres routed the host Colorado Rockies 8-2 on Sunday.
Ludwick hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning and Latos (1-5) allowed two runs – one earned – and four hits in 5 2/3 innings as the Padres beat the Rockies for the second straight contest.
Colorado, which fell to 3-10 in May, pulled within 3-2 on Todd Helton’s sixth-inning homer before the Padres erupted for five runs in the seventh.
Chase Headley singled in the first run, Will Venable doubled home the second and Jason Bartlett doubled both Headley and Venable home with a double to left. Bartlett scored on Brad Hawpe’s single.
Latos struck out five for his first victory since Sept. 7. He lost his last five starts of the 2010 and was winless in his first seven starts this season.
Rockies starter Jason Hammel (3-3) gave up six runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings.
