Yankees 4, Orioles 3

Alex Rodriguez hit his second homer of the night, a three-run shot with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to push the New York Yankees to a 4-3 comeback win over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.

The victory was a critical one for the Yankees, who moved back into top spot in the American League East. New York owns a half-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays, who fell 4-3 to the Los Angeles Angels.

Rodriguez knocked in all of New York’s runs, going 2-for-5 at the plate, and spoiling a great start from Baltimore’s Kevin Millwood. The Baltimore veteran, who hasn't won since the All-Star break, threw seven terrific innings, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out six and walking four.

The Orioles had a 3-1 lead, but Koji Uehara (1-2) blew the save in the ninth.

A.J. Burnett gave up three runs over seven innings while striking out five and walking one for the Yankees. David Robertson (4-4) picked up the win while working one inning of relief and Mariano Rivera worked the ninth frame for his 31st save of the year.

Baltimore’s Robert Andino, who made his third career start at third base, hit a 340-foot bomb down the left field line for his first homer of the season. Adam Jones hit his 19th dinger of the year in the fourth inning.
