Orioles 4, Yankees 3 (11)

Ty Wigginton delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Baltimore Orioles downed the New York Yankees 4-3 Sunday and avoided a series sweep.

Andy Pettitte was solid in his first start since spending more than two months on the DL with a groin strain, but the Yankees couldn’t nail down the win for him. He went six innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three and walking one.

David Robertson (4-5) took the loss as he worked the 11th.

The Yankees took a 3-1 lead into the eighth, but the Orioles got back in it with a Felix Pie RBI single against Kerry Wood. Luke Scott then hit his 27th home run of the year off Mariano Rivera to tie the game 3-3.

Chris Tillman had trouble with his control in a short start for Baltimore. He walked six batters and gave up three runs on three hits over just 3 2/3 innings. Michael Gonzalez (1-3) picked up the win with one inning pitched in relief.

The Yankees remain half a game ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. Tampa fell 6-3 to Los Angeles.
