Rangers 5, Yankees 3

Just like last fall, the Texas Rangers sent their ace to the mound and beat the host New York Yankees 5-3 on Friday night.

Only in the rematch of last year’s American League Championship Series, Texas’ ace was Matt Harrison (3-0), who allowed two runs - one earned - on seven hits with three strikeouts in eight innings. The converted reliever induced an American League record-tying six double plays to shrink his ERA to 1.23.

Rangers closer Neftali Feliz allowed his first run of the season but got Russell Martin to fly out with two men on for his fifth save as Texas improved to an AL-best 10-3.

The Yankees (7-5) outhit the Rangers 9-4, but Texas took advantage of seven bases on balls. Ivan Nova (1-1) was responsible for five of the walks and was charged with all five runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Michael Young went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs as his RBI single in fifth knocked Nova out of the game and put Texas ahead 4-1. David Robertson relieved Nova and promptly walked in another run.

It was a miserable night all around for the Yankees' rotation as Phil Hughes was placed on the disabled list before the game with arm fatigue.
