Yankees 12, Rangers 4

Curtis Granderson hit his 21st home run of the season and drove in four runs as the host New York Yankees crushed the Texas Rangers 12-4 on Tuesday.

The Yankees' Derek Jeter, who is six hits shy of 3,000, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right calf before the game, which was delayed 41 minutes by rain.

New York slapped 14 hits to hand Alexi Ogando his first loss as a starter. Ogando (7-1), who was also tagged by the Yankees earlier this season, allowed a season-high six earned runs on six hits and one walk on 53 pitches in 1 2/3 innings.

Texas has lost five of its first seven against New York this season after defeating the Yankees in last year’s American League Championship Series.

Granderson smacked an RBI single in the middle of the six-run second inning and also went deep in the sixth to tie for the major-league lead with 21 homers. Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez each added a pair of RBIs.

It was more than enough support for CC Sabathia (8-4), who gave up four earned runs on eight hits and struck out six.
